Drunk "Asses"
I just read a post on zombieslayer's blog ( http://zombie-slayer.blogspot.com/) that really hit home for me and tugged at my heart strings. In his post he talks about addiction, both drugs and alcohol. One of the comments he made is so true that I had to share it:
"It brings out the demons within you. I keep hearing people say things like 'Bob's cool, but he's a major asshole when he's drunk.' No, Bob's a major asshole but it takes being drunk for him to show his true side."
How fucking true is that! I know that when I drink and "loosen up" the true me comes out. Maybe that's why I enjoy drinking so much?! My drunken honesty is astounding, sometimes good and other times disastrous. Knowing this, I make sure to evaluate my mood before I pick up that first drink. My drunken self is a direct reflection of the mood that I went into it with. Unfortunately for me and some unlucky others, it took me a few years to realize this about myself. Now I'm not going to sit here and say that I always go with the best option, not drinking when I'm sad or pissed, but at least I'm aware of it and give the people around me fair warning ;) Thanks zombieslayer.
So what kind of drunk are you?

Hey - I can't figure out how to use that shortcut function to link to zombieslayer's blog - HELP. Can someone tell my computer illiterate ass how to do it?
Hey,
I've always wondered whether it's the "true self" that comes out when drunk or the "lesser self" that does. While there are those people who (curse 'em all!) who are "happy drunks", we've all encountered those who are...well, less than happy. Alcohol is a depressant, right? So it seems only logical that it will tweak that side of one's personality, no?
As for the link shortcut--if you mean the quick link from the headline of your post--you can do it while you're composing. Just below "Title" you'll see "Link" and that's where you type in any particular URL. However, in your "Settings" tab, and then "Formatting", you must have "Yes" to "Show Link Field".
A happy, mellow drunk.
I don't know what all that was, but you can also type:
(the name you want in the link here)
fuck. I knew it would type all my stuff as a link.
Let me try breaking it into different lines, but you should type all the lines as one string with no spaces between lines.
="(web address here)"
>(the name of the link that you want to call it here)
fuck me.
I'll type it in paintbrush & post it as a picture for you

Click this you funny bitch
You're welcome.
Sweet post. I turn into an uber nerd. I'm still likeable, but will talk about things I know nothing about like I was the resident expert.
By the way, JK Rowling knows drunks. in Harry Potter 6, she did a wonderful job at showing someone taking advantage of a situation by getting the other person drunk. One person needed to get info out of the other, kept pouring him drinks, and used his weakness, which was exaggerated by alcohol.
Queenie, I'm a blubbering and very loving "drunk", but I don't usually let myself get that way. When I drink I'm very deliberate and I have one or two drinks and then cut myself off. The thing I'm trying to guard myself against is self-medicating to avoid being sad or lonely. I've been told by my partner that my IQ drops significantly when I drink - he hates it. I pay attention to that stuff...
Wow. Great point Queenie and Zombie!
I am a fun, loving and funny person when I drink, pretty much the way I am now.
But on the flip side, I am constantly high because I smoke the 'cronic' all the time. It helps keep me focused and provides some relief to me because I have to deal with a lot of assholes during my day. I also take Paxil. I am a huge "A" type personality and these drugs really help.
If I was not using these, I would be more of a drinker...no doubt.
I think most people drink and do drugs to self medicate. Usually it starts out as fun and then moves into self medication....
Again, great post Queenie.
I used to be a happy drunk--the kind that likes to tell people how much I love them and so forth. I'm turning into a depressed drunk and I'm always hyper sensitive to making a fool of myself while drunk ("Am I being annoying? You can tell me. Sorry, I know I'm being annoying. Did I make a fool of myself tonight?"). Usually, if I stick to just a couple drinks I'm fine.
kitkat - you are anything but an annoying drunk. You are funny and when you and Rich drink together you are really funny....I think you should do it more often with your friend queenie!!!! Especially this weekend.
